Benefits of Rocking Chairs in Classrooms

Rocking chairs are well known for calming infants, but that effect doesn’t disappear as children grow. Older children can also find rocking motions calming. This is incredibly beneficial for students who may be stressed out in a classroom environment. Calm students will have a much easier time focusing on learning.

While many students can benefit from rocking chairs, they can be particularly useful for students with ADHD, who need more frequent chances to move than other students. Rocking chairs provide them with a way to get the stimulation they need without disrupting the rest of the class.

Today, it’s easier than ever to get the right style of rocking chair to meet the needs of you and your students.

There are versions that sit low on the floor that can easily be used for floor time in lower grades. Many of these types of options are also portable, allowing you to move them around the classroom to where they’re needed most.

Other options look similar to any desk chair and allow students the ability to rock without drawing attention their way. Some of these are also adaptable, allowing students the option to wrong but also sitting stably if the student wants.
